Excellent
crash safety performance |
|
Performance In addition to excellent passive safety
features, the new AVALON provides excellent field of
view and active safety features incorporating advanced
technology. The safety performance achieved is
appropriate for TOYOTA's high-end model.
|
In terms of crash safety
performance, the latest CAE techniques have been
employed in the development of a body structure with
superior crash safety characteristics. In addition to
the use of high-tensile steel in the highly rigid body,
the front and center pillars and rocker sections have
been strengthened, and a door beam has been optimally
placed to create a structure that helps absorb side
impact. |

Advanced
SRS airbag system |
Headlamps
and wipers that provide a clear field of view |
The driver and front passenger seats
also feature seatbelts with high-power
pretension and force limiters. These advanced
airbags and seatbelts designed for optimal
restraining performance give the new AVALON
excellent passive safety performance. The rear
seatbelts have a fitting system with an
extendable strap guide that ensures a
comfortable fit for youths and smaller adults.
The extendable strap guide can be stored when
the rear seatbelts are not in use for a more
attractive look. |
 |
For passenger
protection, the new AVALON is equipped with SRS
curtain shield airbags and an SRS knee airbag
for the driver seat. A 2-stage SRS front airbag
is used for optimal control over airbag
deployment. |
|
 |
The low beam of the
new AVALON uses HID (High Intensity Discharge)
lamps that produce nearly twice the illumination
of typical halogen lamps. An auto-leveling
feature adjusts the headlamp beam for a clear,
bright view of the road at night comparable to
driving during the day. The Limited model comes
standard with EC (Electro-Chromic) outer mirrors
for both the driver and front passenger sides,
and EC rearview mirrors. Rain-sensing automatic
wipers are available as an option. These
features add up to superior visibility not only
for driving at night but also in the rain. |

16-inch specification front brakes and rebalanced
front/rear braking force to match its greater engine
output and provide excellent braking performance.
The new AVALON now also has Brake assist in addition to
ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic
Brake force Distribution).
For overall vehicle stability, VSC (Vehicle Stability
Control system) and TRC (TRaction Control system) are
available to keep the new AVALON stable during turns and
ensure straight-line stability when starting or
accelerating on slippery roads.
*Brake assist, VSC, and TRC are available as options on
the Limited model. |
