The Fortuner is a genuine 4WD, designed and built to deliver excellent driving performance both on and off road. Its robust capabilities are based on a refined chassis frame, full-time 4WD system, and good road clearance to tackle rough terrain. A "TORSEN" LSD* on the centre differential gear varies the torque distribution automatically and instantly in response to driving conditions, contributing to excellent vehicle stability.

The highly satisfying experience of driving the Forturner is powered by either a 4.O -litre V6 or a 2.7 - litre engine sporting advanced Toyota engine technologies. They include VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing intelligent ) which provides optimum valve timing based on driving conditions. The advantages of VVT-i include increased torque and output, better fuel economy, and reduced emissions.

The high-rigidity frame structure provides a strong platform for the Fortuner's rugged performance. It also helps to reduce noise and vibration from the engine and road coming into the cabin.
